Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten his teammate at each of the past five race weekends.
Lando Norris narrowly beat fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City recently, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Until that point, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, finished in 17th position as his Red Bull team opted for a different programme.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, though minor, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before spinning across the escape zone, and was lucky to escape with just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the session, rotating twice through the fast downhill Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, just behind teammate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren drivers were well clear of the other competitors, with Nico Hulkenberg's car in third, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
